Today, Feb 3, I turned 30. Thirty! But I was nicely distracted by a fabulous bead store, and trip to Manly Beach, and a show at the Sydney Opera House.
After crepes and a trip to the bead store, we boarded the ferry for Manly Beach, mainly for the trip around the sound - it was a cheap way to see a lot.
Enjoying a little gelato on our way back.
For dinner we dressed up (as much as you can for living out of a suitcase for three weeks) went to a great Chinese restaurant.
This place was a two minute walk to the Opera House. We got a fantastic deal on tickets to the play Optimism, but only because Brooke talked the ticket lady into not checking our IDs. The "deal" was for people under the age of 30 (!) and I didn't qualify. Thanks, ladies, for sneaking me in!
The play was okay, but as we were waiting for it to begin, a woman squeezed by us to get to her seat. As she went by Brooke and I looked at each other in amazement - it was Kate Blanchett. We're not like other people who were tripping over themselves (and other people already sitting in their seats) to introduce themselves to her. Nope. We were cool and only stole a dozen glances her way and talked about it the entire evening.
Funny, though, she was no where to be found during intermission or after the play.

Not a bad way to turn 30.
