Every year Brooke attends a particular financial conference that allows her to have her evenings free. This year the conference took place in Washington, DC, and since she was going to have so much more free time than usual, Lex and I decided to weasel our way into her trip to play in our nation's capitol.
The day we flew out was Lex's 29th birthday, and the lucky birthday girl was upgraded to first class.
Apparently, the first class flight attendant, Gina, had the whole cabin singing Happy Birthday to her and fawned over her the entire time.
Once we touched down in Dulles it was a 30 minute drive into DC.
A snow storm hit the city just days before we arrived, and pretty much everything shut down. But by the time we rolled into town, the roads and sidewalks were mostly clear of snow and ice, and businesses were back up and running.
I never thought about it, but since its not a state its residents actually have no representation.
We took Lex to Founding Farmers for her birthday dinner.
The only time we could get reservations (two weeks in advance) wasn't until 8:45, which ended up being perfect due to the time change.
Without a doubt this is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. Our drinks were delicious. Mine was The Clementine, a fruity drink with a homemade chili infused liquor. And the food was incredible - from the salmon, to the pork chop, to the chicken.
That evening we discovered the lobby packed with the attendees of ShmooCon, a hackers convention. ( The hotel had state-of-the-art touch screen wall posters all over the lobby and had to turn them off the entire weekend because some genius tried to hack in). We plopped ourselves dead center and before long we were laughing it up with some hilarious techies.
Some of whom wore kilts.
Nick didn't think Brooke was fully appreciating his toe socks.
Around 2am we called it quits, downed the last of our blue drinks, and said goodbye to our new friends. One day down, four to go in DC.
Happy Birthday Lexi!
