2 Redheads and a Blonde - New Orleans

2013 marks the beginning of many, many 2 Redhead and a Blonde get-a-way trips and we - Brooke, Princess Lindsay and myself - decided to kick things off in New Orleans.  We had a ball and honestly could have used at least another full day to take more of this crazy city in.  While I didn't take nearly the number of pictures I wish I had, below is a healthy amount.  And yes, most of them are of us and our food.

We stopped first thing at a little hole-in-the-wall restaurant right next to the airport at the recommendation of a friend.  This place was sketch, but we braved it and proceeded to have some of the BEST blackened shrimp in the world.
And then we ordered boiled shrimp and inhaled them...after pealing off their shells and eyes.
Once thoroughly smelling of buttered shrimp, we headed out and to our hotel, dropped off our stuff and headed out to the French Quarter.  We quickly snagged daiquiris and took to the streets.  I wished I would have taken a few pictures of this, but I was too busy taking in the crowds, the food, and the lights. W e found a tiny restaurant with a beautiful courtyard for a late dinner called Amelie.

The next morning (Sunday), we all went for runs, then headed back to the French Quarter for breakfast, hoping to get a table after remembering it was Mother's Day and finding every place booked.  We ended back up at Amelie, put our names on the list, then went in search of coffee.
We found a coffee shop right around the corner and settled in for 45 minutes of coffee and Yahtzee.
Then it was back to the restaurant for real food.

Then we were back on the streets of the French Quarter.
We found this little coffee/gelato shop and they made Nutella lattes.  As in they melt Nutella in the shots (!!)
I still think about it...
Then we decided to take in a few plantation tours.

We started with the Creole plantation, Laura's Family, the one they have the most history on and we loved it.
Afterward we drove back into the city and met up with Brooke's friend Cambria.  She lives in the city and let us crash at her place.  She took us to some great restaurants and gave us a tour of the city.
After breakfast on Monday, Brooke left Lindsay and I to visit with one of our firms, so Lindsay and I walked around the city, shopped a bit, got pedicures and toured the World War II museum.
 Your standard coffee flavors.
We also managed to squeeze in Cafe Du Monde's famous beignets.
On our last evening, Cambria steered us over to Pat O'Brien for their famous Hurricanes and dueling pianos.
Then Tuesday morning we bid farewell to Cambria, grabbed some eggs and grits for breakfast, visited the Tulane bookstore, and finished with a walk around one of New Orleans famous graveyards.
We got in more more game of Yahtzee at the airport, then it was time to say goodbye.
 Cannot WAIT until next year!
