Kicking Off Independence Day With a Half Marathon (My First!)

About five weeks ago, this stinker, Tammers, talked me into running a half marathon with her.  I can honestly say I never thought in a million years I would run anything over an 8k, but I'd do just about anything for this girl.

We each spent all of June running our tails off in an attempt to be ready for 13 miles.  There were many potential road blocks - including migraines, respiratory issues, cut feet, and bruised ankles - but we pushed through!  And at 4am this morning I rolled out of bed and ventured out to meet up with Tammy and her friend Ciara at the shuttles taking us to Sauvie Island for the run.
About two miles into it I hear "Alicia! Tammy! Alicia! Tammy!" and these three come zooming by, cheering us on.  Hannah, Brooke and Lex pulled themselves out of bed at 5am to bike to the island and catch up with us.  They'd pass us, cheering, then pull over a couple miles ahead and be ready with some unique cheers for us as we passed them.  It was so, so great.
Every time the run started to get a bit too hard, there they were, screaming at the top of their lungs.  Tammy and I had runners around us vowing to run with us since we had the best cheerleaders.  After many variations of pyramids and cheerleader chats, they sung us in the last mile with Queen's "[You] are the Champions" at the top of their lungs.
My friends rock.

Love the GIANT medals!
.
And us with our fabulous support system!  Fabulous way to kick off the day!

Happy 4th, Everyone!

An experience well-captured! I think that was one of the most fun things I've ever done. Alicia and Tammy were amazing, and I've never had some much fun cheering on a sporting event.
